What Kid-Free Really Means
Kid-free policies vary more than most people expect, so it is worth reading the fine print. Some resorts set the minimum age at 18, including Couples Swept Away, El Dorado Maroma and Cove Haven Resort. Others set it at 16 or 17. Likuliku Lagoon Resort welcomes guests 17 and older, while Jade Mountain, Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, TreeHouse Point and Free Spirit Spheres set it at 16. Hotel Xcaret Arte admits guests from 16, but its Casa de los Artistas is reserved for those 18 and older. Auberge du Soleil says it is not recommended for guests under 21.
A few properties are couples-focused rather than strictly kid-free. Turtle Island in Fiji opens to families for a few designated weeks each year. Hermitage Bay in Antigua welcomes teens over 14 with their parents, though you will see very few. In practice, all of these feel calm and romantic, but if a strictly child-free stay matters, confirm the policy for your dates.
The Caribbean and Mexico
For all-inclusive simplicity, Jamaica is the heartland. Couples Swept Away on Negril's Seven Mile Beach includes tips, transfers, premium drinks and a huge sports complex. Sandals Royal Caribbean near Montego Bay reopens on December 18, 2026, as Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay, with overwater villas and a private island. In Saint Lucia, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, now Sandals St. Lucia Grand Bay, sits on a peninsula facing Pigeon Island, while Jade Mountain and Ladera Resort offer open-wall suites with private pools facing the Pitons, a very different and more intimate kind of romance. Hermitage Bay in Antigua is a quiet, all-inclusive bay with about 30 villa suites.
In Mexico, El Dorado Maroma combines overwater bungalows with an all-inclusive beach resort, while Hotel Xcaret Arte pairs art workshops and park access with an all-fun inclusive rate. Azulik Tulum offers organic, treehouse-style villas above the Caribbean.
Fiji and Hawaii
Fiji has three exceptional adults-focused islands. Likuliku Lagoon Resort in the Mamanuca Islands has overwater bures with glass floors and includes meals. Tokoriki Island Resort, nearby, faces west so every bure catches the sunset. Most have plunge pools. Turtle Island in the Yasawa Islands has just 14 bures for a maximum of 28 guests and is fully all-inclusive.
In Hawaii, Hotel Wailea on Maui is a kid-free, all-suite Relais & Châteaux retreat with just 72 suites and a famous private Treehouse dinner. On Lānaʻi, Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort is a kid-free wellness retreat with private spa hale. It pairs easily with the beach at Four Seasons Resort Lanai.
North and Central America
In Costa Rica's rainforest, Nayara Springs is strictly kid-free, with 35 villas that each have a mineral-spring plunge pool and views toward Arenal Volcano. In California, Auberge du Soleil overlooks Napa Valley with fireplaces in every room and one of the region's most romantic restaurant terraces. In Sedona, Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel has 40 glass atriums with private rooftop decks for stargazing.
For something rustic and homespun, TreeHouse Point near Seattle and Free Spirit Spheres on Vancouver Island offer handmade treehouses in the forest, both for guests 16 and older. And for unabashed fun, Cove Haven Resort in the Poconos is couples-only, with heart-shaped tubs and seven-foot Champagne Tower whirlpools.
Kid-Free Areas at Family Resorts
Some of the world's best resorts welcome families but give couples their own spaces. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has the Serenity Pool, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo has the Serena Pool, The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort has its Oasis pool and Santa Marina, a Luxury Collection Resort, Mykonos has a kid-free infinity pool. Grace Bay Club in Turks & Caicos keeps a 22-suite Hotel Building just for adults.
These can be excellent choices if you want a particular destination or brand, but expect more families around the main areas, especially during US school holidays. Traveling outside those periods makes a noticeable difference.
