Why Honeymoon on Parrot Cay
Parrot Cay is the definition of a private-island escape. Because there are no public access points, no cruise ships and no day-trippers, the beach is shared only with fellow guests and the occasional homeowner. That sense of seclusion is why the island has long been popular with high-profile visitors who want to vanish for a while.
The island is also built for restoration. COMO's wellness philosophy shapes everything from the menus to the daily yoga classes, so couples often leave feeling better than when they arrived. Days settle into a peaceful rhythm: a morning swim, a long breakfast, a spa treatment, a nap in the shade, a paddle through the mangroves and a sunset drink. For newlyweds exhausted by wedding planning, few places are more healing.
When to Go
Like the rest of Turks & Caicos, Parrot Cay is at its best from about mid-December through April, when the skies are clear, humidity is low and temperatures are typically in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit. This is high season, so book early, especially around the holidays.
May and June are lovely and quieter, with warm water and calmer seas. July and August are hotter, while the Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest risk typically from August to October. Because Parrot Cay is reached by boat, rough weather can affect transfers. Build some flexibility into your travel plans during these months and consider travel insurance.
Where to Stay
There is essentially one place to stay: COMO Parrot Cay. The resort offers a range of accommodations, from Terrace Rooms with garden or raised ocean-facing views to the ocean-facing COMO Suite and the Beachfront Suite with a private pool. The honeymoon favorites are the Beach Houses, freestanding retreats on the sand with heated private pools.
For celebrations with family or friends, the resort manages a collection of large private villas and residences, some of them several thousand square feet, available on request. Rates typically start in four figures a night and climb steeply for the Beach Houses (approximate). If you want to combine Parrot Cay with a livelier stay, many couples begin or end their trip at a Grace Bay resort such as Grace Bay Club on Providenciales, enjoying the restaurants and beach scene before retreating to the island.
Romantic Things to Do
Begin each day with yoga in an oceanfront pavilion, then treat yourselves to side-by-side massages at the COMO Shambhala Retreat, with its infinity pool, Jacuzzi garden and Asian-inspired therapies. Kayak or paddleboard through the mangroves on the island's quieter side, home to wading birds and juvenile marine life.
Borrow bikes to explore the island's trails, then charter a private boat for snorkeling on nearby reefs, a sandbar picnic or a fishing trip. Day trips to North Caicos and neighboring Middle Caicos reveal a slower, more rural Turks & Caicos of caves, quiet beaches and small villages. In the evening, ask the resort to set up a private dinner on the sand beneath the stars.
Getting There & Around
Fly into Providenciales International Airport (PLS), which receives nonstop flights from many US cities; the flight from Miami takes about 90 minutes. From the airport, the resort arranges a short drive of about 15 minutes to Leeward Marina, followed by a scenic boat ride of roughly 35 minutes to the island, so the total transfer is about 50 minutes.
On Parrot Cay itself, you will get around on foot, by bike or by resort shuttle; there are no cars for guests. Boats can be arranged to take you back to Providenciales for dinner or shopping. The resort can also organize excursions to neighboring islands. Plan flights to allow comfortable time for the boat transfer on both ends.
Food & Drink
Dining on Parrot Cay is centered on the resort's restaurants. Lotus, by the pool, serves light Caribbean-inspired dishes by day and contemporary Asian cuisine by night, while Terrace offers modern Italian dishes in a more elegant setting. COMO Shambhala cuisine, focused on fresh, nutrient-rich, often raw or organic ingredients, runs through the menus. Complimentary afternoon tea is served daily.
Fresh seafood from the surrounding waters is a natural fit for island menus. A private beach dinner is a honeymoon must. Because there are no other restaurants on the island, many couples choose a full-board package. For a night out, the restaurants of Grace Bay are a boat ride away.
Honeymoon Tips
- Book a Beach House for maximum privacy and your own heated pool on the sand.
- Consider a full-board or inclusive package, since all meals will be taken at the resort.
- Reserve spa treatments before arrival, especially for couples' rituals in peak season.
- Pack light: dress is relaxed and you will rarely need more than resort wear.
- Bring a good book or two; the island is designed for slowing down.
- Pack insect repellent: mosquitoes and sand flies come out near the mangroves at dusk.
