The Sarojin

A small, design-led Khao Lak resort where breakfast happens whenever you want it

The Sarojin is the Khao Lak resort to choose if you want a calm, romantic beach stay with excellent service and none of the scale of the big chain resorts. It has only 56 residences and suites in ten acres of gardens on the quiet northern stretch of Khao Lak, about an hour's drive north of Phuket airport and it opens onto an 11 km sweep of white sand sheltered by Pakarang Cape.

The resort's reputation rests on the details: an à la carte breakfast served any time and anywhere you like, a spa with open-air pavilions for two and private dinners staged on the beach, on a sand island or beside a candlelit jungle waterfall. The 14 Pool Residences and 14 Jacuzzi Pool Suites give you your own place to swim or soak.

It suits couples who want a quiet base for the Similan Islands, good food and plenty of time doing very little together. It is not kid-free, though it caters to families with children aged ten and up, so the mood stays calm. Couples who want nightlife or shops outside the door should look at Phuket or the Bang La On end of Khao Lak instead.

Highlights at a glance

  • Only 56 residences and suites in ten acres of gardens
  • 11 km of quiet white sand beach
  • All-day à la carte breakfast served anywhere
  • Private dinners at a jungle waterfall or on the beach
  • Lady Sarojin boat trips to the Similan Islands

Why Couples Love The Sarojin

The Sarojin feels like a private retreat rather than a resort. The buildings are low, the gardens are thick with palms and frangipani and the beach in front is long enough that you can walk for an hour and see only a handful of people. Staff are known for anticipating small things: a cold towel after a beach walk, a reserved lounger in the shade or your favorite drink appearing before you ask.

The all-day breakfast is a quiet revolution for honeymooners. You can sleep in, eat on your terrace at noon or order eggs on the beach at sunset if you like. Combined with the spa and the private dining menu, it makes the resort easy to stay at for a week without ever feeling stuck.

Residences and Suites to Book

All 56 units are one-bedroom spaces with a strong Thai-contemporary design.

  • Garden Residences, 95 square meters on the ground floor, have a shaded Thai garden sala outside. They are the value pick.
  • Pool Residences, 120 square meters, have a private pool about 5.5 by 3.5 meters set in a walled garden. This is the classic honeymoon choice.
  • Jacuzzi Pool Suites, 150 square meters on the upper floor, swap the pool for a large heated whirlpool on a private terrace with tree-top views.

For most couples, a Pool Residence is worth the upgrade, since a swim at night under the stars is half the point. Choose a Jacuzzi Pool Suite if you prefer height, privacy from passersby and a warm soak to a cool plunge.

Food, Drink and the Spa

Edge is the resort's open-air timber pavilion facing the sea, serving Thai and Southeast Asian cooking, with tables also set on the sand under the trees. Ficus sits beneath an ancient ficus tree beside a lotus pond and serves contemporary Mediterranean dishes. Its wine bar and cellar hold around 200 wines, with 20 by the glass. A newer Beach Bar has loungers, sofas and seafood baskets for sunset.

The Just for 2 private dining program is the honeymoon highlight. You choose a setting, such as your own sala, a secluded stretch of beach or a candlelit waterfall in the jungle and the team builds the menu around you. Pathways Spa has four open-air treatment pavilions with double beds and rain showers, two with couples' baths. Book the spa early in the day so you can nap afterward.

Why guests fall for it

Service that anticipates small wishes

Things to Do

The resort's own boat, Lady Sarojin, runs day trips to the Similan and Surin islands, among the best snorkeling and diving areas in Thailand. These national parks usually open only from mid-October to mid-May, so plan around that season. Other easy outings include:

  • Phang Nga Bay, with limestone islands and sea caves, as a full day trip.
  • Khao Sok National Park, about an hour or two inland, for rainforest, lake rafts and wildlife.
  • Cooking classes and culinary evenings at the resort.
  • Bikes, yoga and pickleball on site, plus three golf courses within an hour.

When the southwest monsoon arrives, roughly May to October, the sea can be rough with rip currents. Swim only when the beach flags say it is safe.

Getting There

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is about 89 km south, roughly an hour by car. The resort offers private transfers with Wi-Fi, cold towels and drinks, which is the simplest option after a long-haul flight. From the US, most couples connect through Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong or a Gulf hub to Phuket.

Khao Lak's peak season runs from November to April, with dry weather and calm seas. Shoulder months bring lower prices and the resort's autumn offers, but also more rain. Mosquitoes are present year-round, so use repellent in the evenings. If you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices for Thailand. Taxis can be arranged through the front desk for evenings out in Bang Niang or Bang La On.

Is It Worth It?

The Sarojin is one of the better values in Thai luxury. Rates sit below the big names in Phuket and Koh Samui, yet the service, food and spa are on the same level and the beach is far quieter. In low season, offers can bring a Garden Residence to around $185 a night, while high-season Pool Residences cost several times that.

The trade-offs are real. The resort is out of town, so you rely on taxis or the hotel for dinners elsewhere. The beach is lovely for walking but the sea can be rough in the monsoon months. There is no kids' club, but families with older children do stay. Couples who want a big pool scene or nightlife will be happier at a larger resort further south. For a quiet, food-focused honeymoon by the sea, The Sarojin is hard to beat.

Insider tips

  1. Book a Pool Residence for night swims, or a Jacuzzi Pool Suite for more privacy and treetop views.
  2. Reserve a Just for 2 dinner as soon as you book; the waterfall setting is weather-dependent.
  3. Visit between mid-October and mid-May if the Similan Islands are on your list.
  4. Look for September and October offers if you are flexible and do not mind some rain.

FAQ

The Sarojin questions, answered

Is The Sarojin kid-free?

No. The resort welcomes families with children aged ten and over, but it has no kids' club and the atmosphere is very calm. Most guests are couples, especially in the pool categories. If you want a strictly kid-free resort, ask the team about current policies before you book.

Which room is best for a honeymoon?

A Pool Residence is the classic choice, with 120 square meters inside and a private pool in a walled garden. Jacuzzi Pool Suites are larger at 150 square meters and sit on the upper floor with a heated whirlpool on the terrace. Garden Residences are the value option and still have a private garden sala.

How far is The Sarojin from Phuket Airport?

The resort is about 89 km from Phuket International Airport (HKT), which takes roughly an hour by car. The Sarojin offers private transfers with Wi-Fi, refreshments and cold towels. It is a straightforward drive along the coast road, so you can arrive the same day as an international flight into Phuket.

When is the best time to visit Khao Lak?

November to April is the dry season, with calm seas and the Similan Islands open for day trips. December and January are busiest and most expensive. From May to October the southwest monsoon brings rain and rough seas, but prices drop and the gardens are at their greenest.

What is the Just for 2 dining program?

It is The Sarojin's private dining service for couples. You choose a setting, such as your own garden sala, a secluded part of the beach, a private sand island or a candlelit jungle waterfall and the chefs create a menu for the two of you. Book it through the resort's reservations team in advance.
