Eden Roc Cap Cana is the boutique luxury choice in Punta Cana: 68 suites, bungalows and villas in the gated Cap Cana community, with a private Blue Flag beach and the distinction of being the only Relais & Châteaux member hotel in the Dominican Republic. If the idea of a 600-room all-inclusive leaves you cold, this is the alternative.
The style borrows from the Riviera. There is a 1960s Monte Carlo-themed cocktail bar, a Mediterranean fine-dining room and suites that open onto private pools rather than shared decks. It feels more like a small hotel in the south of France that happens to sit 15 minutes from one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean.
It suits couples who want privacy, good food and a short transfer and who are happy to pay by the meal rather than prepay everything. The beach is quieter than Bávaro and Cap Cana's marina, Juanillo Beach and Punta Espada golf course are close by. Families do stay here, mostly in the larger villas, so ask for a suite away from them if you want total calm.
Highlights at a glance
- Only Relais & Châteaux member hotel in the Dominican Republic
- Private Blue Flag beach with a beach club
- Pool suites and Oceanfront Bungalows
- Mediterraneo, La Palapa and BLUE restaurants
- About 15–20 minutes from Punta Cana airport
Why Couples Love Eden Roc
Scale is the main reason. With 68 units, staff learn your names and you never queue for a lounger. The suites are spread through gardens and lagoon-style pools, so even at full occupancy the place feels hushed.
The second reason is the beach. Guests use a private Blue Flag beach with its own beach club, a calm stretch of Caribbean sand away from the crowds of the main Punta Cana strip. Finally there is the Relais & Châteaux standard, which shows in the food and the attention to detail. Cap Cana itself is a gated community, so evening strolls and golf cart rides feel relaxed and safe.
Suites and Bungalows to Book
The hotel has four broad categories.
- Pool suites are the core of the hotel and the best value for a honeymoon, with your own pool a few steps from the bed.
- Beachfront Suites trade some garden privacy for sand at your door.
- Oceanfront Bungalows face the water and are the most romantic choice if your budget allows.
- Villas & Residences, from 3 to 11 bedrooms, are built for groups and families.
For most couples, a pool suite is the right booking. If you want to hear the sea at night, upgrade to an Oceanfront Bungalow. Ask the hotel which units sit furthest from the villas, where families and groups tend to stay.
Food, Drink and the Spa
Dining is a genuine strength. Mediterraneo is the fine-dining room, with Mediterranean cooking given a local twist and seasonal menus. BLUE Grill + Bar is the relaxed option by the pool, with a rotisserie and Neapolitan pizza. La Palapa by Eden Roc does seafood with a Caribbean and Mediterranean mix, from ceviche and sushi to homemade pasta.
For drinks, Riva Bar leans into 1960s Monte Carlo glamour with creative cocktails, while La Cava is the wine cellar and a good spot for a private tasting. The beach club serves cocktails on the sand. The spa and wellness program offers couples treatments and booking one on your first afternoon is a good way to shake off the flight.
Why guests fall for it
Things to Do
Cap Cana has plenty to fill a few days without long drives.
- Play Punta Espada, the clifftop golf course along the sea, where the hotel also runs a restaurant.
- Spend an afternoon at Juanillo Beach or browse the Cap Cana marina.
- Swim in Hoyo Azul, a turquoise cenote inside Scape Park.
- Charter a catamaran or fishing boat from the marina.
- Take a day trip to Saona Island for sandbars and starfish shallows.
Mosquitoes can be active at dusk. Dengue occurs in the Dominican Republic, so use repellent and if you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices.
Getting There
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) has nonstop flights from a long list of US cities and Cap Cana is roughly 15 to 20 minutes south by car. That short hop is one of the best arguments for staying here: you can land at lunchtime and be in your pool by mid-afternoon.
Book your transfer through the hotel so a driver meets you in arrivals. Once inside Cap Cana you will not need a car for the hotel, the beach or the marina. For trips farther afield, such as Saona Island or Altos de Chavón, the concierge can arrange drivers and boats.
Is It Worth It?
For couples who want boutique luxury close to the airport, yes. The private pools, the small size and the quality of the restaurants are hard to find elsewhere in Punta Cana, where most resorts are large all-inclusives.
The trade-off is cost. Meals and drinks are charged separately and three restaurant dinners a day for a week add up. Couples who prefer prepaid simplicity might do better at one of Cap Cana's kid-free all-inclusives. Couples who want a wild, empty beach should look north to Uvero Alto. But if you care about food and privacy more than unlimited cocktails, Eden Roc is the most polished stay on this coast.

- Book a private tasting in La Cava for an anniversary-style evening on the trip.
- Reserve Punta Espada tee times through the hotel, which can be easier than booking direct.
- Visit Hoyo Azul early in the day before tour groups arrive.
