Huma Island Resort & Spa is the closest thing to a Maldives-style overwater stay in the Coron area: a small private island off Busuanga with dozens of villas standing on stilts above the shallows, each with its own spa tub on the lanai. If you want Coron's lakes and wrecks by day and a quiet island to come home to at night, it is one of the strongest honeymoon picks in this corner of Palawan.

There are 81 villas split between the water and the beach. Both types are large by any standard. Breakfast and transfers from Busuanga airport are included, which keeps arrival simple. The resort has an outdoor pool, a full-service spa and two restaurants. It suits couples who want privacy and a dramatic room without the very top prices of El Nido's island resorts. It is less ideal for couples who want to walk to Coron town's restaurants or who plan to spend every day on the sights, since everything starts with a boat ride.

Highlights at a glance

  • Overwater villas on a private island
  • Private spa tub on every lanai
  • Villas of about 102 to 126 square meters
  • Breakfast and airport transfers included
  • Full-service spa and outdoor pool

Why Couples Choose Huma Island

The draw is the combination of seclusion and space. Coron town is hot and noisy, with no real beach, so most couples who come for the lagoons end up wishing they had somewhere calmer to sleep. Huma solves that. Once the boat drops you off, the island is yours to share only with other guests.

The overwater villas are the signature. You step out of bed onto a lanai above the sea, sink into a spa tub with the bay in front of you and watch fish in the water below the boardwalk. Beach villas trade that for sand at your door and slightly more room. Evenings are quiet, with dinner at the resort and stars overhead, which is exactly the rhythm many couples want after a long day of island hopping.

Water Villa or Beach Villa

Both villa types are generous, with a king bed, deep soaking tub, rain shower, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, an espresso machine and a private spa tub on the lanai.

  • Water Villa, about 102 square meters, sits over the sea and is soundproofed. This is the one to book for a honeymoon if you want the overwater experience, with sea views from the lanai.
  • Beach Villa, about 126 square meters, opens toward the beach and the sea. It is larger and puts you a few steps from the sand.

Water villas farther along the boardwalk are usually quieter and have less foot traffic outside. Ask for one with an open sea view rather than one facing the main resort. Rollaway beds are available but cribs are not, so the villas feel built for couples.

Food, Drink and the Spa

A continental breakfast is included every morning from 7 to 10 a.m. Lunch and dinner are at the resort's two restaurants, one of which is Waves, along with a bar and a poolside bar for afternoon drinks. Because you are on an island, plan to eat most meals here and budget for them, since there is nowhere else to walk to.

The full-service spa offers massages, body treatments and facials. Reservations are required, so book your first session when you check in. A massage after a day climbing the steps at Kayangan Lake is well earned. The resort holds gala dinners on certain holidays, so if you arrive over New Year, expect a festive evening that is charged separately.

Things to Do

Coron's big sights are a boat ride away. Kayangan Lake has a viewpoint over the karst islands. Twin Lagoon, where you swim or paddle through a gap in the rock between warm and cool water, completes the classic day. Barracuda Lake is a favorite with divers for its strange thermoclines.

Certified divers should not miss the Japanese supply ships sunk in 1944, which now lie in the bays around Busuanga and Coron. Non-divers can snorkel over the shallower wrecks. At the resort itself, there is snorkeling, a fitness center and a library for slower days. Ask the resort about private boat trips to the main sights, which let you leave earlier than the crowds. Wear reef shoes and a rash guard. Use repellent at dusk, since dengue occurs in the Philippines; if you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices.

Getting There

Fly to Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) on Busuanga, which has flights from Manila. Land and boat transfers to Huma Island are included for both villa types, but you need to contact the resort at least 72 hours before you travel with your flight details so they can arrange the boat.

The front desk runs from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and there is no after-hours check-in, so pick a flight that lands in daylight. Boats generally do not run after dark. A late arrival can mean a night in Coron town. Check-in is from 2 p.m. and check-out is at noon. The driest, calmest months are roughly December to May. From about June to October, rain and rough seas can cancel boat trips, so leave a spare day in your plans.

Is It Worth It?

For an overwater honeymoon in the Philippines, Huma is good value. The villas are large and well equipped, breakfast and transfers are included and the private spa tub on every lanai is a real upgrade over most Coron hotels. You pay a fraction of what you would on a Maldives overwater villa.

The trade-offs are real, though. Everything depends on boats and weather, island dining adds up and the resort is a long way from Coron town if you like exploring local restaurants. Couples who want a barefoot, food-focused or ultra-luxury stay might prefer one of El Nido's island resorts. Couples who want a dramatic room, a quiet island and Coron's lagoons within reach will be very happy here.

Insider tips

  1. Email the resort at least 72 hours before arrival with flight details or the boat may not be waiting.
  2. Book a flight that lands in daylight, since there is no after-hours check-in.
  3. Ask for a water villa at the far end of the boardwalk for privacy and an open sea view.
  4. Arrange a private boat to Kayangan Lake and leave early to beat the tour groups.

FAQ

Huma Island Resort & Spa questions, answered

Does Huma Island have overwater villas?

Yes. Huma Island's Water Villas stand above the sea on stilts, connected by a boardwalk. Each is about 102 square meters with a king bed, a soaking tub and a private spa tub on the lanai. The resort also has larger Beach Villas if you would rather be on the sand.

Are transfers included at Huma Island Resort?

Land and boat transfers from Busuanga airport (USU) are included with both villa types. Contact the resort at least 72 hours before you travel with your flight details. Boats do not run after dark and there is no late check-in, so choose a flight that arrives with daylight to spare.

How much does Huma Island cost per night?

Rates depend heavily on season and villa type. As a rough guide, expect something like $500 to $700 a night for two in a Water Villa, with breakfast and transfers included. Holidays and the dry season cost more. Check the official booking engine for current prices and offers.

Can we visit Kayangan Lake from Huma Island?

Yes. Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and the Coron wrecks are all reachable by boat. The resort can help arrange trips. A private boat costs more than a shared tour but lets you set your own schedule and arrive before the main crowds, which makes a big difference at the busiest sites.

When is the best time for a Huma Island honeymoon?

The dry months from roughly December to May bring calmer seas and the most reliable boat days. March to May is hottest. June to October is the wetter season, when storms can cancel trips or transfers, so build a buffer day into your plans if you travel then.
