Milos Cove

Private pools, a private beach and the quiet northeast tip of Milos

Milos Cove is the island's best-known luxury resort and the easiest choice for couples who want a private pool, a beach and five-star service in one place. It has 42 suites and villas on a hillside at Komia, near the fishing village of Pollonia, with a private beach at Agkali below.

Most suites come with their own pool or plunge pool and many face the open sea toward Kimolos. The look is modern Cycladic: white walls, natural stone, linen and plenty of terrace space. Pathos, the restaurant, handles breakfast and Mediterranean dinners and there is a bar for sunset cocktails and a spa for slow afternoons.

It suits couples who want to split their time between their own terrace and boat trips around the island. You are a few minutes from Pollonia's waterfront tavernas, about 20 minutes from Plaka for sunset and within easy reach of Sarakiniko. It is not a village hotel, so you will drive or take taxis to dinner on most nights out. For many honeymooners that trade is welcome: total quiet after dark, a pool to yourselves and a beach you share only with other guests.

Why Couples Love Milos Cove

The appeal is privacy without isolation. Milos is a small island with dramatic coastline, but most of its hotels are compact rooms in villages. Milos Cove offers something rarer here: a full resort with suites spread over terraces, each with outdoor space and in most cases its own pool.

The private beach at Agkali is a real asset on an island where the famous beaches get crowded by midday. You can swim before breakfast, return after a boat trip and still have loungers waiting. The infinity pool is a second option when the wind is up.

Pollonia, just down the road, is one of the nicest places on Milos for dinner, with fish tavernas along a small sandy bay. That gives you a lively evening option without staying in the middle of it.

Rooms and Villas to Book

Categories range from suites with plunge pools to multi-bedroom villas.

  • Deluxe Suites with plunge pool: the entry point, though some have limited views. Fine if you will be out all day.
  • Junior Suites with private pool and sea view: the best value for most honeymooners, with water views and a proper pool.
  • Executive Lofts: a split-level layout with a private pool and mountain view.
  • Honeymoon Suite: a private pool and sea view, designed for couples.
  • Premier, Infinity and Serenity Villas: larger, with private pools. Infinity and Serenity have two bedrooms, so they suit couples traveling with friends more than couples alone.

It is worth paying for the sea view. The northeast coast looks out at Kimolos and Polyaigos and the colors of the water at dawn are the reason many guests come back.

Food, Drink and the Spa

Pathos is the main restaurant, serving breakfast and Mediterranean dinners with an emphasis on Greek ingredients and seafood. Breakfast on the terrace is a highlight. In the evening, the bar mixes cocktails as the light changes over the sea.

The spa offers massages and treatments plus a gym for workouts. A couples massage after a day on a boat is a good use of an afternoon.

Even so, plan to eat out a few times. Pollonia has some of the island's best seafood, a short taxi ride away. Plaka and Trypiti, on the ridge above the bay, offer sunset dinners with views to the west. Klima, with its painted boathouses, is beautiful for a late lunch by the water. Book popular tavernas ahead in July and August.

Things to Do

The headline trip is a boat day to Kleftiko on the southwest coast, where white rock arches and caves rise from very clear water. Reach it by catamaran or by a small private boat, which the hotel can arrange. Boats leave from Adamas or Pollonia, depending on the operator.

Sarakiniko, the moonscape of pale volcanic rock on the north coast, is about 15 minutes from the hotel. Go early in the morning or late afternoon, as the white stone gets very hot and busy at midday.

From Pollonia, a short ferry crosses to Kimolos, a quieter island with a lovely hilltop village and beaches. Also save time for sunset at Panagia Thalassitra in Plaka and a stroll through the Catacombs and the site where the Venus de Milo was found.

Getting There

Milos Airport (MLO) has short flights from Athens, around 40 minutes and is roughly 20 minutes by car from the resort. Ferries from Piraeus take about three to seven hours depending on the boat and Milos is also connected to Santorini, Paros and other Cyclades in summer.

The resort can arrange transfers from the airport and the port at Adamas. A rental car or ATV is very useful for exploring, since many beaches are on dirt roads and taxis are limited on Milos. Book a car early for summer.

Milos Cove is seasonal, roughly late spring to early autumn. June and September are ideal months, with warm water and fewer visitors than in August. Be aware that the meltemi wind can blow hard on the north coast in summer, which sometimes cancels boat trips.

Is It Worth It?

For a pool-and-beach honeymoon on Milos, Milos Cove is the top choice. Nothing else on the island combines a private beach, private pools, a spa and full resort service at this level. Rates are high, roughly from the mid-hundreds to more than a thousand dollars a night depending on season and category. These figures are approximate.

It is less ideal if you want to stroll to dinner every night or prefer the character of a village. In that case consider a smaller hotel in Pollonia or a converted boathouse in Klima, then spend the money on a private boat day.

Couples who value space and privacy will find it worth the premium, especially in June or September when rates soften and the island is calmer.

Insider tips

  1. Book a sea-view Junior Suite rather than an entry Deluxe Suite with limited view.
  2. Take a small private boat to Kleftiko early, before the big catamarans arrive.
  3. Visit Sarakiniko at sunrise from the hotel; it is about 15 minutes away.
  4. Reserve a rental car or ATV as soon as you book the hotel.

FAQ

Milos Cove questions, answered

Does every suite at Milos Cove have a private pool?

Most do. Many categories include a private pool or plunge pool and some sea-view Junior Suites have a jet tub instead. Read the description of the exact category when booking. Every guest can also use the main infinity pool and the private beach at Agkali.

How far is Milos Cove from Pollonia and Plaka?

Pollonia is only a few minutes away by car or taxi, which makes it easy for dinner. Plaka, the hilltop village known for sunset views, is about 20 minutes away. A rental car or ATV is the simplest way to explore, since taxis on Milos are few and busy in summer.

How much does Milos Cove cost?

Expect rates from the mid-hundreds of dollars a night for entry suites in the shoulder season, rising well above a thousand dollars for sea-view pool suites and villas in July and August. These figures are approximate. Booking early and choosing June or September usually brings the best value.

When is Milos Cove open?

The resort is seasonal, generally open from late spring to early autumn like most Cycladic hotels. June and September are the best months for a honeymoon, with warm water and calmer crowds. Check the official site for exact opening dates in the year you travel.

What happens if the meltemi wind cancels our boat trip?

It happens on Milos in July and August, when the north wind can blow for several days. Build a spare day into your plans so you can reschedule Kleftiko. On windy days the resort's pools and the sheltered south coast beaches, like Firiplaka and Tsigrado, are the better choice and the spa is a good fallback.
