Explora Rapa Nui is the easiest way to experience Easter Island well on a honeymoon. It is a 30-room lodge in the countryside outside Hanga Roa. Its all-inclusive program covers everything that is otherwise fiddly here: guided explorations to the moai and craters, meals and drinks, national park fees, spa access and airport transfers. You simply choose each evening where you want to go the next day.
The building is low and wooden, with big windows facing open grassland that runs down toward the sea. Rooms are calm and simple, each with a jetted tub. The lodge has an outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and spa for recovering after a day of hiking among volcanoes.
The island itself is the attraction. Rapa Nui is one of the most remote inhabited places on earth. Its stone statues, quarries and coastal platforms are deeply moving. Explora's guides, many with local roots, give context that changes how you see them. Couples who want to wander independently or stay in town near restaurants may prefer a smaller hotel in Hanga Roa.
Highlights at a glance
- All-inclusive guided explorations of Rapa Nui
- 30 rooms with jetted tubs and ocean or garden views
- Outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and spa
- National park fees and airport transfers included
- Polynesian and Chilean cuisine with Chilean wines
Why Couples Love Explora Rapa Nui
The lodge removes all the planning. On Easter Island, many archaeological sites require a licensed guide and park tickets have rules. At Explora, guides, vehicles and fees are handled for you, so you can focus on the experience.
The explorations are varied. With about 30 options, from gentle walks to long hikes, bike rides and water outings, you can tailor each day to your mood. One morning might be sunrise at Ahu Tongariki. Another might be a hike along the cliffs or a swim at Anakena.
The setting is peaceful. Away from Hanga Roa, nights are dark and quiet with very bright stars. After dinner, couples often sit by the windows or in the hot tub, listening to the wind and watching the sky over the grassland.
Rooms to Book
There are 30 rooms in total. The 26 Varúa rooms are the standard category, with natural wood interiors, large windows and views over the garden or toward the ocean. Each has a jetted bathtub, which feels very welcome after a dusty day of exploration.
The four suites offer more space and are worth considering for a honeymoon, especially for longer stays when you will spend more time relaxing in the room.
For most couples, an ocean-view Varúa room is the sweet spot. Request it when you book and mention your honeymoon. The rooms are designed to be calm rather than flashy, so the view out the window does most of the decorating. Bring layers; nights can be breezy and cool.
Food, Drink and the Spa
Meals are included and served in the lodge's restaurant, which has ocean views. Menus blend Polynesian and Chilean cuisine, with fresh tuna and other local fish appearing often. The wine list focuses on Chilean labels, with a good selection of reds and whites included in your stay.
Breakfast is relaxed and lunches can be packed for longer explorations. Dinner is a chance to talk with guides about the next day's plan and choose your outing.
The spa offers treatments at an additional cost. Facilities such as the outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna are included. Book a massage after your longest hike, then soak in the hot tub as the sun goes down. Expect a quiet, early-to-bed rhythm, which suits the early starts for sunrise at the moai.
Why guests fall for it
Things to Do
Explora's program includes around 30 guided explorations covering hiking, biking, snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and cultural experiences. Highlights include sunrise at Ahu Tongariki, where 15 moai stand in a line against the dawn. Another is Rano Raraku, the quarry where most moai were carved and many half-finished figures remain on the slopes.
Walk the rim of the Rano Kau crater and visit the ceremonial village of Orongo, perched above the sea. Swim at Anakena, the island's palm-fringed white-sand beach, where moai stand on a platform behind the sand.
The water around the island is very clear, which makes snorkeling and diving rewarding. In the evening, head to Ahu Tahai near Hanga Roa for sunset behind the statues. Spend one evening in town for a meal out or a traditional dance performance.
Getting There
Easter Island is reached via Santiago (SCL), from where LATAM flies to Mataveri International (IPC) in about five hours. Most couples spend a night or two in Santiago or the wine country before flying out.
Explora includes round-trip transfers from Mataveri, so you will be met at the airport and driven to the lodge outside Hanga Roa. You will not need a car, since all explorations include transport.
Plan at least four nights on the island to make the long trip worthwhile. Explora sells multi-lodge packages that combine Rapa Nui with Atacama, Torres del Paine or other destinations, which can simplify a longer Chile honeymoon. Pack sun protection; UV is strong and there is little shade at many sites.
Is It Worth It?
For couples who want a hassle-free, well-guided Easter Island trip, yes. The all-inclusive model makes sense on an island where guides are often required and logistics take effort.
It is expensive. Explora sells mostly multi-night packages rather than single-night rates. Published prices for two-lodge combinations that include Easter Island start from roughly $6,000 per person for eight nights, which works out to roughly $1,500 a night for two. Treat these figures as approximate and check Explora's current rates.
Pick elsewhere if you want to explore on your own or stay close to Hanga Roa's restaurants. Nayara Hangaroa sits on the coast near town with a spa, while family-run guesthouses offer warm hospitality for much less.
Insider tips
- Request an ocean-view room and mention your honeymoon when booking.
- Do the Ahu Tongariki sunrise exploration early in your stay in case clouds cancel it.
- Plan at least four nights to see the island without rushing.
- Look at Explora's multi-lodge packages if you are also visiting the Atacama or Patagonia.
