Fasano Trancoso is the resort-style alternative to staying in the village. Brazil's best-known luxury hotel group built it on a large estate by Itapororoca beach, a short drive south of Trancoso's Quadrado, with architect Isay Weinfeld designing 40 bungalows spread across the grounds. Roofs are thatched with piaçava palm, furniture is made from Brazilian freijó wood and every bungalow has a shaded veranda.

The facilities match the name: a 50-meter pool, a separate wellness pool by the sauna, Spa Fasano with treatment bungalows overlooking the gardens and two restaurants, one serving grilled seafood and meat by the beach and one serving Italian classics alongside Bahian dishes such as moqueca. Activities include horseback riding along Itapororoca, kayaking and cycling.

Rates for two often start around $830 a night. It suits couples who want space, privacy and a beach that rarely feels crowded, with village dinners a short taxi ride away. It suits less well couples who want to walk out of their door onto the Quadrado every evening, or who are looking for a small kid-free retreat; families stay here too and there is a children's pool.

Highlights at a glance

  • 40 Isay Weinfeld bungalows from 60 to 210 square meters
  • Large estate by quiet Itapororoca beach
  • 50-meter pool plus a separate wellness pool
  • Spa Fasano with garden-view treatment bungalows
  • Two restaurants, Italian and beachside grill

Why Couples Love Fasano Trancoso

Space is the luxury here. The bungalows are spread across a big estate, so even when the hotel is full you rarely see more than a few other guests at a time. Paths wind through gardens toward the beach and evenings are quiet enough to hear the sea.

Itapororoca is one of the longest and emptiest beaches near Trancoso, with soft sand and room to walk for an hour without meeting anyone. Horseback rides along the shore at sunset are a hotel classic.

The design ties it all together. Isay Weinfeld is one of Brazil's leading architects and here he kept things simple and local: thatched roofs, natural wood, wooden oars and handmade ceramics as decoration, antique colored-glass demijohns on shelves. The result is calm, warm and very Bahian, with none of the gloss of a big chain resort.

Bungalows to Book

There are 40 bungalows in five categories, from 60 to 210 square meters. All share the same design language of thatch, freijó wood and verandas.

  • The entry bungalows, around 60 square meters, are spacious by any hotel standard and fine for a short stay.
  • The middle categories step up in size.
  • The largest bungalows, up to 210 square meters, are the honeymoon choice for a long stay, with room to spread out.

The hotel does not publish a full breakdown of views and extras by category, so ask before you book which bungalows sit closest to the beach and which are most private. For larger celebrations, the neighboring Reserva Trancoso has rental villas of four to six suites designed by Weinfeld and by Bernardes Arquitetura.

Watch for the hotel's offers: One More Night gives a free fourth night on a four-night stay and the Bem-Estar package bundles wellness treatments.

Food, Drink and the Spa

There are two restaurants. Praia Trancoso, led by chef Vagner Souza de Andrade, specializes in grilled meats and seafood in a relaxed setting close to the sand. It is the place for long lunches after a morning on the beach.

The main Fasano Trancoso restaurant serves the Italian classics the group is known for, alongside seafood and local dishes such as bobó de camarão and moqueca. Both restaurants take outside reservations, so book ahead in high season.

Spa Fasano offers classic and signature massages, body treatments and facials in treatment bungalows that look onto the gardens. The wellness area includes a sauna and its own pool, separate from the main 50-meter pool, which is reserved for adults; children have their own pool. Book a couples treatment at the end of your first full day.

Things to Do

Itapororoca is on your doorstep: swim, walk the beach and take a horseback ride along the shore. The hotel also offers kayaking and bikes for exploring the coast.

Trancoso's Quadrado is a short drive north. Go at sunset to watch the light fade behind the white church, then stay for dinner under the trees at one of the square's restaurants. The hotel can arrange a car.

Farther south, Praia do Espelho has some of the clearest water on the coast, with reef pools at low tide; it is worth a full day with lunch at one of the beach restaurants. Car-free Caraíva, reached by canoe across a river, makes a memorable day trip. Ask the concierge about tides before you plan, since several beaches change dramatically between high and low water. Some beaches have currents, so swim where it is calm.

Getting There

Fly to Porto Seguro Airport (BPS), which has daily flights from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian cities. From there, the drive to Trancoso takes about an hour and the hotel sits a little farther south on the road toward Itaquena. Ask Fasano to arrange a transfer.

Once you are there, you will want a car or taxis to reach the village and other beaches, since the hotel is outside town. Many couples simply stay put on the estate for a few days, then plan one or two outings.

The sun is strong all year, so pack a hat and reef-safe sunscreen. Mosquitoes appear at dusk; bring repellent. Dengue occurs in Bahia, so if you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices.

Is It Worth It?

For couples who want space and calm, yes. Typical rates for two start around $830 a night, rising for larger bungalows and for the New Year and Carnival peaks. Compared with the village hotels, you get far more room, a serious pool and spa and a beach that rarely feels crowded.

The trade-off is distance from the Quadrado. You will not stroll home from dinner and the estate's scale means a little walking between your bungalow, the pool and the restaurants. Families also stay here, though the size of the grounds keeps things quiet.

Couples who want to be part of village life should choose UXUA on the Quadrado. Those who want a pool of their own and to step onto the sand should look at the Bangalô Master at Estrela d'Água. For a polished resort with Bahian character, Fasano is the pick.

Insider tips

  1. Ask which bungalows are closest to the beach and which are most private before you book.
  2. Book the One More Night offer for longer stays; the fourth night is free.
  3. Take the sunset horseback ride on Itapororoca early in your stay.
  4. Reserve a car for an evening on the Quadrado rather than relying on finding a taxi.

FAQ

Fasano Trancoso questions, answered

How far is Fasano Trancoso from the Quadrado?

The hotel sits by Itapororoca beach, a short drive south of Trancoso's Quadrado on the road toward Itaquena. It is too far to walk comfortably at night, so plan on a hotel car or taxi for dinners in the village. Many couples split their evenings between the hotel restaurants and the Quadrado.

Do the bungalows have private pools?

The hotel does not list private pools for its bungalows. Instead, it has a 50-meter main pool, a wellness pool by the sauna and a children's pool. The bungalows range from 60 to 210 square meters with shaded verandas. If a private pool matters, ask the hotel directly or look at the villas in Reserva Trancoso.

Who designed Fasano Trancoso?

The architect Isay Weinfeld designed the hotel and its bungalows, using thatched piaçava palm roofs, freijó wood furniture and local crafts such as wooden oars and handmade ceramics. He also designed the Villas Fasano in the neighboring Reserva Trancoso, while Bernardes Arquitetura designed a second set of villas.

What are the restaurants like?

There are two. Praia Trancoso, led by chef Vagner Souza de Andrade, grills meat and seafood close to the beach. The Fasano Trancoso restaurant serves Italian classics plus Bahian dishes such as moqueca and bobó de camarão. Both are open to outside guests with a reservation, so book ahead in high season.

Is Fasano Trancoso good for a honeymoon?

Yes, if you want space and quiet. The bungalows are large and spread out, the beach is long and uncrowded and the spa and pool are excellent. It is not kid-free and it sits outside the village, so couples who want to stroll to the Quadrado each night may prefer a hotel in town.
